The work reflects on our increasingly close connection with the digital world, where everyday movements, faces, habits and choices are constantly tracked, interpreted and turned into data. What remains of a person when a living presence is broken down into points of light? Can a digital reflection save the true presence of this moment here and now right in front of us? In this transformation that one moment becomes crucial – a brief point of contact between the body, the camera and the light. Movement appears, changes and disappears without leaving a fixed image. The spectator becomes the creator, the image and the source of data all at once, briefly seeing himself as part of the system that observes, interprets and transforms him. The installation not only shows a person, but it also reminds us that technology always creates its own version of what it sees.
The light object is an interactive audiovisual installation measuring 3 meters high and 4 meters wide. There are 32 light sources used to provide for dynamic lighting design. A camera connected to the Resolume Arena video-processing software makes the installation interactive. It also includes a sound system, creating both visually and audio attractive large-scale environment installation.
This is one of the artworks in the Spīķeri route of light. The concept brings four light installations together in one story about the human place in time and space, and the ongoing process of transformation. Each artwork reveals a different aspect of human experience: digital identity, the inevitability of repetition, the mathematical order of the Universe and the wisdom our ancestors left behind.
