DAWN.SUNRISE. CHILDREN DRAW LATVIA

Culture and Folk Art Centre “Mazā ģilde” (Small Guild) facade

Light awakens and illuminates Old Riga. During the “Staro Rīga” light festival, the city fills with the murmur of crowds, with joy, light, and colour — a true DAWN — standing in contrast to the usually quiet, dark streets of Old Riga at night. Within this circle of light, the story of the messengers of dawn unfolds through seven chapters — seven Morning Tales that rouse the city and awaken the heralds of the coming day.

DAWN. SUNRISE is the fifth object of the Old Riga Light Circle of “Staro Rīga” light festival. The sunrise on the facade of the Small Guild building will be brought to life by the drawings of the children from the Children’s Art Studio, as well as other children and youth from Riga.

The object is included in the participatory action “Children Draw Latvia”, which has been taking place for the fourth year – in various places in Latvia, children draw their Latvia and animations of their drawings colour the urban environment in the dark. In 2025, one of the stops of the participatory action “Children Draw Latvia” is the Small Guild building.
