INTERLUDE invites visitors to pause for a moment, be present and experience art beyond familiar boundaries. The project interprets this idea as a pause and a moment for oneself amid the daily rush. Nowadays when we plan everything, we rarely plan time for ourselves. INTERLUDE is invitation to stop, disconnect from the noise, listen and look within oneself.

Interlude is a musical term for a short passage between larger sections of a composition. It serves as a transition or an emotional pause, connecting separate musical sections into a unified whole.

INTERLUDE is a multimedia sound and light experience that unites choral music, a guitar composition, high-resolution projections and historic architecture in one immersive event. It also demonstrates how cultural heritage can be interpreted in a contemporary, technologically advanced form.

Visitors to the “Staro Rīga” light festival will have the possibility to enter the INTERLUDE venue and see one scene from the performance.

INTERLUDE is an art project created in Latvia with the participation of around 100 specialists from different fields, including musicians, artists, sound directors, engineers and producers. It is a combination of creative idea and contemporary technology.

At the heart of INTERLUDE is the mass “My Prayer”, composed by Kaspars Zemītis for guitar and choir. A mass is a musical composition form of sacral origin where music creates a structured unified narrative. INTERLUDE interprets this form in a contemporary way, emphasizing its emotional and symbolic dimensions.

The composition is performed by the National Academic Choir “Latvija”, a professional choir with extensive international experience. The choir regularly collaborates with notable conductors and orchestras and takes part in major festivals and recording projects.

The performance’s visual concept is created by multimedia artist Māris Kalve. Projections cover the church walls, ceiling and architectural features, transforming the space into a dynamic visual environment. High-resolution projections create a strong sense of spatiality, blending sound and image into a unified experience.
