On the 25th April 2009, the Latgale Suburb Executive Board (now R\u012bga\u2019s Eastern Executive Board) unveiled sculptor Andris V\u0101rpa\u2019s sculpture in the historic Hay Market in Maz\u0101 kalna Street Square which was dedicated to the early days of the horse trams in R\u012bga. The reconstructed Market square was opened many years before \u2013 on the 20th December 2006, and over the years has been transformed into a beautiful square, where the historic market roof and lanterns have been preserved, a children\u2019s play area and footpaths have been established, and benches to rest on have been installed.<\/p>\n

The restored market roof, historic lanterns and the traditional Christmas tree reminds us of the life of the people of R\u012bga and the old market traditions in the Maskava suburb.<\/p>\n
