It will change from being an event featuring light and video objects and installations, which it has been in previous years, to a platform for national and international multimedia light and technological art projects. The main objects of the festival will be specially constructed video installations, projections, and light installations, by internationally acclaimed artists.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <i>Staro R\u012bga<\/i> <i>2014 <\/i>Festival of Light will delight residents and visitors of R\u012bga over five evenings, from 14 to 18 November 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with the biggest festivals of light in the world, <i>Staro R\u012bga 2014<\/i> will participate in artist mobility programmes, and will transform R\u012bga\u2019s dark November evenings into a colourful world of light and video installations. <i>Staro R\u012bga 2014<\/i> is part of the R\u012bga Carnival chapter of the European Capital of Culture programme and, correspondingly, the theme of the festival this year is also R\u012bga Carnival.<\/p>\n<p>The objects featured in the festival will be selected by curators of the festival and the artistic council of the R\u012bga 2014 Foundation. There will be fewer objects than in previous years, but each will provide a special experience to the festival\u2019s visitors. It is expected that the urban art projects will be created by the best Latvian and most well-known international light and video installation artists and creative collectives. By featuring high quality and internationally acclaimed light objects the festival will become part of the international movement of festivals of light. Several international objects will be unveiled for the first time in R\u012bga, and the festival will also feature works from the biggest festivals of light from around Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The R\u012bga 2014 Foundation invites supporters to help in the creation of a broad festival of light programme by supporting the presentations in R\u012bga, this year\u2019s European Capital of Culture, of the works chosen by curators.<\/p>\n<p>This year the <i>Staro R\u012bga<\/i> Festival of Light will start a new participatory programme \u2013 <i>Light Up Your R\u012bga<\/i> \u2013 and invite anyone, ranging from businesses to residents, to light up the capital of Latvia during the dark season by creating colourful light installations in the city\u2019s windows.
