The Tree of Light with its new lighting provides a playful summer sun\u2019s warmth and a feeling of light in the dark winter, creating an illusory association with the fire rituals of the solstices.<\/p>\n

In 1510, the first Christmas tree in the world was decorated right on the R\u012bga R\u0101tslaukums. On the 10th of June the people of R\u012bga and visitors to the city formally unveiled the Tree of Light at the open air leisure venue only a few metres away from the site where the historic tree was erected.<\/p>\n

The electronic clock by the stylized tree, with the R\u012bga rooster on the steeple, counts down the time left until the moment when throughout the world people will start to decorate Christmas trees, which the R\u012bgans taught everyone to do more than 500 years ago.<\/p>\n
