THE SUN ROSE

Square at the National Library of Latvia, Mūkusalas Street 3

“The Sun Rose” is an audiovisual light installation honouring the past while embracing the future, combining Latvian cultural heritage with innovative technologies. The installation was inspired by the light installations that adorned Riga during the times of the first independent state of Latvia, as well as the powerful symbol of the sun. This work of art symbolizes a new beginning and eternal transformation.

The installation is approximately 5 meters high and 6 meters wide. The exterior decoration of the structure is made of brass plates, which, interacting with the installation’s light sources, create rich and changing light reflections. The installation “The Sun Rose” uses more than 300 meters of digital light tape. the sound design is created by sound director Pēteris Pāss.. The installation is complemented by several powerful spotlights. The light is seen from the distance of several kilometers.

“The Sun Rose” is a journey through time and space — from Riga’s glorious past to the present, in which the power of light symbolizes the energy of life and transformation.
