Vērmanes Garden open-air stage
Diriģents (Conductor) will offer everyone an opportunity to become a very real choir conductor, with their hand movements determining what some of Latvia’s best-known folk songs will sound like: Div´ pļaviņas es nopļāvu, Rīga dimd, Tumša nakte, zaļa zāle, Rīgas torņa gala zīle and Bēdu, manu lielu bēdu.
The challenge for visitors will be to put themselves in the role of the conductor, raising their hands, abandoning themselves to their emotions and leading their own unique version of a Latvian folk song, performed by Sōla, the mixed choir of the Latvian Academy of Culture.
This combination of projections, Kinect technology and Latvian choral music will not only ask us to remember well-known folk songs and have pride in Latvia’s choral traditions, but will also provide a unique opportunity for anyone to find out what exactly a conductor does and that each movement has its own meaning, echoed in the performance.
