Light awakens and illuminates Old Riga. During the “Staro Rīga” light festival, the city fills with the murmur of crowds, with joy, light, and colour — a true DAWN — standing in contrast to the usually quiet, dark streets of Old Riga at night. Within this circle of light, the story of the messengers of dawn unfolds through seven chapters — seven Morning Tales that rouse the city and awaken the heralds of the coming day.

The sun illuminates the world — morning has begun! The laser projection “Dawn. The First Ray of Sun.” blends video and laser artistry to create a vivid multimedia story on the Gun Powder Tower.

Its creator, Artis Vilks, has spent more than a decade working in light and multimedia project design. His digital installation “Urbaniode” at the Liepāja Centre Primary School stadium (2022) and the laser installation “Blow the Wind!” (2022) were both voted audience favorites during the “Illuminated Liepāja” walk. He has contributed to numerous light festivals throughout Latvia and, in 2025, created installations for the light events “Illuminated Liepāja” and “Light Seasons.”
