Light awakens and illuminates Old Riga. During the “Staro Rīga” light festival, the city fills with the murmur of crowds, with joy, light, and colour — a true DAWN — standing in contrast to the usually quiet, dark streets of Old Riga at night. Within this circle of light, the story of the messengers of dawn unfolds through seven chapters — seven Morning Tales that rouse the city and awaken the heralds of the coming day.

Dawn is coming, and daybreak approaches. Another moment for nighttime dreams, and now morning is slowly approaching. Time to wake up. Time for a new day.

The video and light installation DREAM. AWAKENING. will illuminate the Town Hall using mapping technology. In 2025, a young video artist Sandija Trautmane received recognition for creating the most popular artwork in the “Illuminated Liepāja” walk, and this time she will conjure up scenes of awakening in Town Hall Square. The projection uses mapping technology, and for the second time in Latvian light events, video-capture technology will be used to trigger light installations that will colour the environment around the projection and the surrounding buildings. The music for the video projection is composed by Rūdolfs Ploriņš.
