Moment of doubt – the light is searching for direction. This visually dynamic artwork reveals the fragile moment before decision is made, the position when all possibilities are open but none of them has been chosen yet. The movement of the light seems to set itself in motion searching for a path and becoming an autonomous figure. Fluctuation symbolizes indecision and at the same time also accumulation of energy: each new sway brings closer to the moment when choice must be made.

A moving source of light is suspended in an 8 × 8 × 8-meter arched structure creates a beam that crosses the space. The visitor becomes part of the installation by setting the beam in motion and swinging it from one side of the structure to the other. At first, the beam moves in a broad, seemingly unpredictable rhythm. Gradually its movement becomes more focused until, at one decisive moment, the beam invites visitor to continue towards the next object. The installation captures the essence of the festival theme “unum momentum”, the moment when doubt turns into decision.

This is one of four artworks in the Mūkusala Promenade route of light exhibition “Course of Light. From Doubt to Presence.” The exhibition is conceived as a journey experienced both spatially and emotionally. Together the works create a personal path for visitors moving from unpredictable, shifting light to an encounter with their own reflection in the final installation.
