18 MY LATVIA

Latvia. You live inside me as an amber tear preserving the sun’s kiss and the rustle of pine trees, as warmth of mother’s milk and father’s handshake at once. I love you not as a possession, but as living breath in green fields, grey sand, rivers that sing of freedom, and in people whose eyes hold both bygone pain and relentless hope. You are brotherly love teaching to respect ourselves and offer the world who we are – quiet, resilient and clear as spring water. My Latvia, I love you in the way that does not close doors but opens them wide, so through you I can love all humanity, beginning with the heart of my own land.

Erich Fromm said: “Love is an activity, not a passive state. It is “giving”, not “taking”.” Let’s love our Latvia and give it everything we can!

For the first time in Latvia and for the first time in Riga’s urban environment the video animation will be seen on a flying LED screen in eight-minute presentations by SHADE MOTION every half hour. The flying LED screen measures 8 × 3 metres, or 24 m², and is lifted into the air by a drone. Its optimal flight height is approximately 20–30 meters. Powerful light beams will complement the story on the LED screen.

This is an artwork in the first Old Riga route of light. In the exhibition of nine light artworks “Moment of Love”, the artists seek their own moments of love and definitions of love.
