The building’s facade will come to life, offering a glimpse into what happened inside this historic bank building a hundred years ago. The video projection will lift the curtain on everyday life at the bank, when it was bustling with activity and its enormous vaults surely held all kinds of secrets. Perhaps 2026 will be the year the bank’s vaults reopen, letting us peek at what has been hidden and stored inside.
The Riga Bourse Bank building was built in 1887 by the design of the remarkable architect Heinrich Karl Scheel in the Neo-Renaissance style. It was specifically designed for the Riga Bourse Bank, which handled major financial and trade transactions until the Second World War. This historic bank building in Old Riga, opposite the Riga Bourse building on Dome Square, will become the setting for a new light experience of “Stories of Light,” this winter. During the “Staro Rīga” light festival, its facade will come to life, offering an artistic interpretation of the bank’s historical secrets.
