LAIMA CLOCK
Audio-visual object
Freedom Square
The Laima Clock, at its unchanging location is like Rīga’s beating heart, which witnesses moments when the city’s lovers, friends and guests meet. The clock has been an integral symbol of the city with an acquired cultural historic value since 1924.
In celebrating Latvia’s 100th birthday, the Laima Clock will be illuminated in the colours of the celebration and will bring joy to passers-by every half-hour with sonorous melodies by maestro Raimonds Pauls.
The clock was renovated in 2017 in honour of Latvia’s centenary and from that time it has been counting the hours, minutes and seconds until Latvia’s birthday. At 4.50pm on 18th November, everyone is invited to the Laima Clock, to await Latvia’s centenary together and express their love for Latvia.
