14 FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET

In the morning, as the sun rises red above the forest, a Latvian steps out into the silver dew. The blue sky and red light embraces him like mother’s arms, and the heart sings along with the birds.

During the day, he walks through the golden fields, where blue sea of cornflowers waves beneath the red sun. The earth is warm, the wind is free – and he feels alive and belonging here.

In the evening, when the sky burns red and deep blue, he sits by the sea or a campfire. The waves rustle and the love for this land becomes as deep as the blue of the sky and as warm as the red of the sunset.

This is a Latvian’s everyday life in nature – from morning to evening, from sunrise to sunset. That is our love for the living nature around us.

The courtyard of Riga State Gymnasium No. 3 will be illuminated with high-power spotlights colouring the trees and surrounding environment, and projectors will colour the tree trunks at selected moments of the multimedia performance. Visitors will view from the street the installation in the enclosed courtyard, creating a sense of a contained world.

This is an artwork in the first Old Riga route of light. In the exhibition of nine light artworks “Moment of Love”, the artists seek their own moments of love and definitions of love.
