TĪĢERA ZVAIGZNĀJS

Location: Rīga Zoological Garden

At night, looking up at the sky, a more knowledgeable observer would know how to find the Scorpion, Swan or Lion constellations among the range of stars. Unfortunately, up till now none of the constellations has been given the name “Tiger”!

To make amends for this injustice, this year – in the Year of the Tiger, the Rīga Zoological Garden in cooperation with sculptor Kārlis Alainis, has created his “Tiger Constellation”. At its centre – a more than 4 metre long and 2 metre high Star Tiger. No less interesting, the tiger’s companions – Python and Butterfly, which have been created as colourfully illuminated, spatial mouldings. A real constellation! And the main thing – it can be seen even at times when there is cloud cover in the sky!

From the 18th to the 21st November, during the Festival of Light “Staro Rīga”, the zoo garden ticket offices will be open until 19.00 and it will be possible to look at the animals in illuminated enclosures until 21.00. However, the indoor expositions, in which the animals don’t feel the summer or the winter (the Giraffe House, Tropical House, Terrarium etc.), will be open until 20.30.

The view that the zoological garden is attractive only on a summer’s day is wrong. Last winter the “Zoo Garden Night” offer was very popular among visitors, and people willingly admired the illuminated animal expositions and the four metre long tiger snow sculpture even in the dark evening hours in the very cold of winter. Now the Year of the Tiger at the Zoological gardens will continue with the “Tiger Constellation”!

During the Festival, entry into the illuminated zoo gardens will be open until 19.00 (exit until 21.00), but tickets at night from 16.00 – 19.00 will cost only Ls 2.00 for adults and Ls 1.00 for children and pensioners.
Please come along!
