SPOTLIGHTS

Mobile video-projection
Maskavas Street 9

Spotlights (or starneši from the words starmeši and vēstneši) light up important issues in Latvia and the rest of the world and invite us to consider our heritage of environmental treasures and the responsibility, which each of us must take on every day through symbolic illuminated images of animals.
During the festival period, the old port neighbourhood – Lastādija – at the start of Maskavas iela, will be taken over by illustrated and animated creatures, whose natural environment and future is threatened in Latvia due to the activities of various people. The spotlights will talk about and reveal how fish in the Baltic Sea, the black stork in Latvia’s forests, the European mink, the brown bear and other animals are faring.
The fates of three different wild animals are at the core of the multimedia performance, revealed through images of animals, drawn by artist Kitija Role and animated by artist Toms Burāns, as well as audio stories created by writer Pauls Bankovskis and read out by actors.
