GARĀ GAISMA

Location: Arēna Rīga

Looking at the “Long light” pulsating from the Arēna over the surrounding city, one can look for the answer to one of the questions – How long is light? Does light have length? Is long light visible? Does long light have meaning? Does a ray of light have power? How far and how fast do rays of light travel?

Arēna Rīga is taking part in the Festival of Light “Staro Rīga” for the third time already. As one of the most significant venues for events in Latvia, the Arēna is also transforming its façade – once a year – during “Staro Rīga”. In previous years, Arēna Rīga has illuminated its façade with projections of light and has marked the building’s size, emphasizing the roof line. This year the Arēna building becomes a certain beamer of long lights – an envoy of light, which sends long lights all around and into the Universe.

Arēna Rīga began operating in 2006. The building is 24 m high and 140 m in length, the total area being – 22 568 square metres. From its opening until the 1st of November 2010, 717 events have taken place at the Arēna, which have been attended by a total of 2 783 299 people. In the near future Mireille Mathieu, Brainstorm, Vanessa Mae and Kylie Minogue concerts will take place at Arēna Rīga, as well as VEF Eurocup matches and Rīga Dynamo CHL regular championship matches.
