Defragmentation

VENUE: Rīga Congress Centre forecourt

The time-space segment of a medium being occupied is always limited, leading to fragmentation. A new process naturally fills a free space, but if the boundaries of a medium cannot be expanded, division occurs to create free space in available sectors. In this context, the cube shape is accepted as a perfect geometric form, simultaneously indicating the total amount of space, with strictly defined boundaries. The importance of scale in this case is not only that of a person in relation to the object and the location of the viewpoint in the space, but also scale as an ideological emphasis on the abstract whole, which is greater than the person, and which can only be assessed from a distance, in perspective, as opposed to a close-up view where what is being fragmented dominates the field of vision.
