SEASIDE HISTORIES

Vērmanes Garden Park

For communication at sea, a variety of means of communication can be used – the Morse code, beacon light signals or handwritten letters in bottles thrown into the murky waters. The project “Seaside Stories” is a metaphorical video about the sea and its secrets. The video was inspired by the thoughts of the main character of Ernest Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea”. It features archive footage of seaside life, purposefully filmed sequences about the sea, sea sounds, and images of various sea “souvenirs” that have been washed ashore. The object is on exhibit in Vilnius, Rīga and Gdansk as part of the “Baltic Light Chain” project.

Principles of the Morse code were used in creating the video.
